First World Problems


First World Problems

When I am grumping about something that really doesn’t make much difference in the big picture my son often reminds me I am having, “First World Problems.”  That means, if I wasn’t so lucky as to be living in a first world country in a middle class life and had real problems like those in poorer countries, such as starvation and war around me, my problems would not be problems.  He is right, however, here I a list of my first world problems.

First World problems of the day
  • ·         My husband’s remote garage door opener isn’t working so I have to go push the button to close to garage door after he leaves.
  • ·         I had to adjust my activities at home today because my cleaning lady is here.
  • ·         I have too many bags of stuff that need to be carried to my evening meeting.
  • ·         There is so much laundry to be folded and put away.
  • ·         My iPad and my computer are not communicating as well as I would like.
  • ·         I have to go and pick up a prescription I will not need to pay for, because I have reached my pharma care deductible and now the cost is covered.
  • ·         When I look around my house I am overwhelmed by the things I need to look after or put away.
  • ·         My dog barks too much.

When I look at this list of problems I cannot help but realize that I do not really have any problems at all.

I am incredibly blessed or lucky to have the life I have.

    Hahaha! True. So why do people get together and complain and actually compete to see who has more, or worse, first world problems?
    It’s interesting, originally Europe was the first world, as they improved their sailing skills, North and South America became the New World (2nd) , and when Asia and Africa were colonized, they became the third world. I think...ask a historian...
